Welcome! Here, you will find a source for links to other "non-spanking" parts of the internet, local articles, research data, and news media reports related to an adult behavior which has declared itself many things other than beneficial for children. We at NeverHitAChild.ORG are dedicated to its elimination. Paddling children at school is rooted in the same practice in the home. The prevalence there is crudely reflected in the permission we give to our schools to hit our children. Second only to Mississippi, Arkansas paddles a larger portion of its students than the rest of the minority of states that still allow adults to intentionally hurt their pupils. An Arkansas school student stands a one-in-ten chance of being hurt at school by one of the adults there, while the national average is one-in-a-hundred. About ten Arkansas school districts prohibit paddling. Our state department of education allows the remaining 300+ districts to do pretty much as they choose, short of using deadly force. We believe that the continued practice of hitting children tells children that the use of physical aggression continues to be a legitimate means to resolving conflict. Therefore, our children can learn nothing truly meaningful about non-violent conflict resolution until the adult role models they observe through most of their waking hours at home and at school no longer demonstrate any value for hurtful physical force in relating with other people. We have enough violence in our society. Refusing to be violent with our children should be our most immediate priority in any sincere effort to reduce societal violence.
